March

PAC is pleased to announce that it has launched the Phase Technology DFA-70Xi, the world’s first 4-in-1 analyzer that tests diesel fuel viscosity, density, cloud and pour point.

The multi-function DFA-70Xi automatically performs all four critical tests in less than 25 minutes. With just the touch of a single button, the analyzer delivers real-time results via a 15” color touch screen display.

The DFA-70Xi is completely self-cleaning, without the need of solvents. The otherwise time-consuming, tedious task is totally avoided, freeing laboratory staff to concentrate on other job duties.

Using its own self-contained thermoelectric cooling and heating systems, the DFA-70Xi does not require an external liquid bath as commonly found with conventional viscometers. There are no glass tubes, thereby eliminating the risk of injury and contamination.

The DFA-70Xi offers the best measured repeatability and reproducibility of any comparable automatic or manual test method. Kinematic viscosity is compliant with ASTM D7945, with perfect correlation to ASTM D445 and IP 71. Cloud point is compliant with ASTM D5773 and IP 446, with perfect correlation to ASTM D2500 and IP 219. Pour point is compliant with ASTM D5949, with perfect correlation to ASTM D97 and IP 15. Density complies with ASTM D4052 and IP 365.

The new DFA-70Xi combines versatility and convenience with the proven reliability and precision Phase Technology analyzer users have enjoyed for decades. The new model includes all the standard data exporting capabilities, including easy connection to LIMS systems. The DFA-70Xi can also be configured to include the capability of testing freeze point of jet fuel. An optional 48-position autosampler is also available.

RAPID

February

Malaysian oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) is developing a refinery and petrochemical integrated development project (RAPID) and other associated facilities in Pengerang, Southern Johor, Malaysia, through a project called Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC).

How PAC is involved in the project

When it came to develop the laboratory-environment, the project was entrusted to OCS GmbH, a renowned systems integrator based in Germany. By working together closely, our sales team was able to meet any standards and expectations put forth by OCS, which resulted in one of the largest single-order deals in recent history.

PAC will provide 63 Gas Chromatography based instruments, marketed under their AC Analytical Controls brand, as well as 40 instruments in Physical Properties testing, represented by PAC’s Herzog- and ISL brands.

The instruments are currently in production across different PAC production sites in Europe. After final testing is complete, they are scheduled to be installed mid 2018 in the all-new, state-of-the-art laboratory in Johor, Malaysia.

About the Project

Southern Johor was chosen as the location for the project due to its proximity to deepwater port facilities and regional demand centres. The complex will cover an area of 2,000ha, and include a crude oil refinery and petrochemical complex capable of processing 300,000 barrels per day (bpd). The project will help Petronas to produce premium petroleum products and speciality chemicals. Demand for such high-value products is increasing, especially in the Asia Pacific region.

The RAPID project refinery will produce gasoline and diesel that will meet Euro 4 and Euro 5 fuel specifications. It will also supply feedstock for the petrochemical complex, which will create highly specialised chemicals. The refinery will use modern technologies to develop these products and follow stringent environmental regulations. The project will enable Petronas to meet this demand for the next 20 years

PAC is very proud to have been selected as the preferred supplier by OCS to supply its leading laboratory testing instruments for this project. For more information on this partnership, please contact your local PAC Sales Representative or complete our contact form.

New DHA Software XLNC

February

PAC AC Analytical Controls is excited to pre-announce the launch of a next generation DHA software in our XLNC suite. DHA XLNC is a software suite for GC Detailed Hydrocarbon analyzers that truly refocuses all operator efforts on workflow. PAC AC Analytical Controls’ DHA Software interfaces universally to all major Chromatography Data Systems in the market to produce accurate results; fast and in the format required. The DHA XLNC software contains predefined test methods and product knowledge, limiting user configuration to a bare minimum. Component database, test methods and dedicated products can easily be created, copied or modified to match specific needs.

Peak identification based on Kovats index is combined with compound ranking technology, resulting in more accurate peak identification and increased analysis reliability.

The software also supports all AC pioneered applications like Fast DHA, DHA FE, COMBI and AC 8612. PAC offers a fast DHA application to determine the individual components in gasoline blending feedstocks within 28 minutes, keeping critical components chromatographically separated. The product range also includes a DHA Front End (FE), and a DHA Combi, where FE can be combined with a standard method in one solution.

The AC DHA analyzers comply with standard methods D5134, D6729, D6730, D6733, D7900, EN15199-4 and IP601.

AC 8612 delivers ASTM D86 calculated data for naphtha and gasoline samples within ASTM D86 groups 0, 1, and 2. A proprietary calculation model provides accurate D86 calculated data which makes it a fast and safe alternative for D86 physical distillation.

Mini Cloud and Pour analyzer OptiMPP
January

PAC has completed the relaunch of its Cold Properties product line with the recent addition of OptiMPP. The new Mini Cloud & Pour Point analyzer provides highly accurate cloud and pour point results using only 0.5 ml sample. Simply place the sample in a disposable vial into the 20 specimen sample changer and press the OK key. No special programming or expected point is required. Results are available in 20 minutes for a -30ºC pour point. OptiMPP significantly increases productivity and improves repeatability and reproducibility with a 0.1ºC resolution. The instrument eliminates external coolers and allow testing as low as -95ºC. The user-friendly. OptiMPP is ideal for use in applications where standard laboratory instrumentation cannot be applied, or is restricted due to insufficient response time, small sample volume availability, or untrained staff with little exposure to lab equipment. Users can choose to operate OptiMPP as a standalone unit or benefit from using it in a PC-controlled network with PAC IRIS Software. This advanced lab instrument data integration software is designed specifically for PAC instruments to gather and analyze test data and communicate results so customers can make informed decisions. OptiMPP correlates with: ASTM D2500, ASTM D7346, ASTM D97, ISO 3015, ISO 3016, ASTM D7689-11; and is listed as an alternate test method in:
