Fuel Analysis Instruments

Fast, accurate analysis of physical properties and chemical composition is a key advantage for refineries, terminals, and mobile labs.

Refineries conduct fuel analysis on incoming crude oil, scrutinizing its composition and properties to prevent the production of off-spec products and ensure stringent adherence to safety standards. This analysis of crude oil forms the basis of efficient and reliable refining processes, optimizing product quality and operational efficiency.

Incoming Crude Oil Analysis

Crude oil analysis is conducted to incoming feedstock to understand it composition and properties. Parameters like density, viscosity, sulfur content, and API gravity are measured to enable refineries to optimize key processes based on crude quality. With the OptiFuel system, PAC employs an ATR flow cell and FT-IR for fuel analysis, delivering accurate results to aid process control and optimization.

Blending Optimization

Refineries blend different quality of crude to create specific crude grades, monitoring the product for octane rating, to balance high and low octane components, as well as distillation curves to blend for desired boiling points. With the help of PAC’s analytical instrumentation, refiners can achieve optimal fuel properties for gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, or any grade of product.

Quality Control

Ensuring consistent product quality is a key benefit of fuel analysis. Flash point analysis, for example, supplies data to determine safety during handling and storage, while cloud point analysis is relevant for diesel fuel in colder climates. Both support optimized processes that correlate with standards and deliver a safe, consistent, reliable product.

Real-time Analysis of Fuel Properties

Refinery labs often struggle with the sheer number of instruments and resources required to perform testing per the fuel-type specifications. PAC’s OptiFuel safely measures multiple analytes within a short cycle time. A multi-parameter model design supports efficient, accurate analysis of petroleum products like gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and biodiesels – in real time!

The PAC Advantage
