OptiPMD won the “2019 Best New Analytical Instrument” at Gulf Coast Conference last week. Thirteen new analyzers competed for the coveted title, including Agilent, Koehler, Grabner, Shimadzu, and Eralytics among others. PAC won the most votes from the show’s attendees and some of our industry peers. OptiPMD performs a physical atmospheric distillation in just 10 minutes using only 10 ml of sample. It follows ASTM D7345, which is approved in more than 10 fuel specifications, including gasoline with up to 20% ethanol, diesel, jet fuel, kerosene and bio-diesels.

With the introduction of the new Agilent 8890 Gas Chromatography platform, we have been converting our top-line AC Analytical Controls instruments to create an even better user experience for our clients. Intelligent capabilities built into the Agilent 8890 GC give you the freedom to work with your GC… not on it. These capabilities can also grow over time as your analytical needs change—so you can keep your lab moving toward a successful future.

Intuitive new touch-screen interface
This new and intelligent GC platform simplifies life inside the lab by giving you real-time access to instrument status and information. The home screen provides updates on the system at-a-glance and allows you to customize frequently used setpoints for quick accessibility

Check your lab anytime, from anywhere!
Now you don’t have to be in your lab to make sure that things are running smoothly. Mobile access features let you view setup information, troubleshoot problems, pause and start sample runs among other controls!

Right now, our Reformulyzer M4, SIMDIS, Refinery Gas Analyzer and DHA Analyzer are available on the new 8890 platform, with the remaining instruments to follow soon.

PAC introduces OptiPMD, ISL's latest version of its robust and portable micro-distillation analyzer. OptiPMD combines 15 years of experience with the latest technology to offer a user-friendly solution that significantly reduces the need for training. OptiPMD follows ASTM D7345, which is approved in more than 10 fuel specifications, including gasoline with up to 20% ethanol, diesel, jet fuel, kerosene and bio-diesels. OptiPMD performs a physical atmospheric distillation in just 10 minutes using only 10 ml of sample. This allows you to make faster decisions for process optimization and potentially save you millions in off-spec products. OptiPMD is designed to be a true "one-push-button" solution, with a fully automated test sequence, allowing minimal operator attendance. Simply prepare the sample and load into the analyzer. Type in a sample ID, select it from the pre-loaded options, or scan it with the barcode reader. Then, just press START to run the sample. The results can be stored, printed or shared via ethernet, LIMS or with a USB drive. OptiPMD is the fastest way to perform a distillation of petroleum products. Our analyzer saves between 25 to 35 minutes per distillation, compared to D86 analyzers. OptiPMD's robust design and compact size makes it ideal for mobile lab applications. It also includes the highest safety standards including an optical flame detector, a built-in fire suppression system, and quality control functions, which allow users to enter specification limits by product. OptiPMD is compliant with: ASTM D7345, IP 596 and in perfect correlation to: ASTM D86, D1160 (biodiesel B100), ISO 3405 & IP123. It's also included in 10 ASTM fuel specifications as an alternative to D86 for product certification and compliant with international fuel specs in Canada, Mexico, Chile, India as well as Def Stan 91-091 for jet fuel.

In order to meet the growing market demand for real-time rheological data, PAC has launched the latest version of the ViscoPro firmware with Multipoint Shear-Sweep Functionality. The previous version of the ViscoPro firmware used PAC’s oscillating piston technology to provide real-time shear rates at the point of the viscosity measurement. As part of our continuous improvement efforts, this latest version of firmware now includes a routine that allows users to cycle through a series of shear rates at a selectable interval to provide on-line, multi-point shear curves. Non-Newtonian fluids comprise an increasing share of materials produced for and by the petrochemical industry. ViscoPro is calibrated with multiple setups using Newtonian fluids, but there is a variation in each setup with the power driving the piston and the stroke length (the distance it travels). Because all the other determining factors are fixed, we can calculate the shear rate at the corresponding viscosities to produce the shear curve data. The technology has been successful differentiating a series of non-Newtonian polymer concentrations at various shear rates to complete shear curve profiles for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) fluids. Customer provided data shows a strong correlation to data obtained by a Bohlin rheometer in the range of 127-1000 sec-1. "We are excited about this new addition to our process analytics portfolio. Based on customer feedback, we have significantly improved our ViscoPro platform to serve a variety of customers and applications for years to come", said Patrick Riley, Director of Cambridge Viscosity.

As of February 4, 2019, PAC’s Rotterdam site has moved into a new, high-tech facility in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. At this PAC brand center, the AC Analytical Controls and Antek product lines are developed, produced and tested for customers around the world.

After more than 27 years of operation at the same location, the time had come for PAC Rotterdam to move to a new building with opportunities to streamline processes and grow the business for years to come. In a project that span over 18 months, the existing building that used to house a cash management company was transformed from its former vault-like structure to a brand-new and open workspace of nearly 2800 square meters!

The new floorspace adds nearly 60% to PAC Rotterdam’s existing capacity. This much needed expansion was driven by the production of PAC’s latest innovation; the Antek Elements analyzer which has been relocated from PAC Houston to PAC Rotterdam. In addition, increased demands for PAC’s AC Analytical Controls chromatography products warranted the need for additional production- and testing space.

The benefit of starting with a blank space allowed for optimizing the workflow processes throughout the value-streams inside this new facility. Efficient routing of goods and people, implementation of true KANBAN systems, the creation of product cells with dedicated tooling and many more initiatives to eliminate waste all contributed to a workflow that is truly LEAN and efficient.

The floorplan of this new facility has been designed with the customer in mind and so special attention has been paid to the overall customer experience. A large-scale new training facility with adjoining demo laboratory was realized for clients and channel partners to receive high quality training. A mezzanine floor provides visitors with a close-up view of the production facilities and the test laboratory without disrupting lab technicians on the production floor.

One of the objectives of the project team was to ensure PAC remained a great place to work by focusing not only on the customer experience but on employee well-being as well. After the first two weeks of being fully operational, it appears that mission has been accomplished! The Rotterdam team is very proud of the new building and its improved characteristics. Some have praised the additional space in nearly every department, others rave about the design and overall experience of this new facility. The project will formally conclude with a grand opening for PAC employees and management, scheduled on March 20, 2019.

PAC Rotterdam is located at Kiotoweg 555, 3047 BG Rotterdam, The Netherlands All phone numbers and email addresses remain unchanged.

PAC is pleased to announce that its headquarters facility located in Houston, Texas has been approved for ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board for: manufacturing testing and calibration, as well as in-house depot and field testing and calibrations services.

The ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) is the largest multi-disciplinary accreditation body in North America.

ISO/IEC 17025 is the single most important and internationally accepted standard for testing and calibration of products and services. Accreditation bodies use the standard specifically to assess relevant factors of a laboratory’s ability to produce precise, accurate testing and calibration instruments with NIST traceable data.

PAC was also re-certified ISO 9001-2015 by Management Certification of North America (MCNA) on November of 2017.

These important accreditations reaffirm our commitment to quality, precision and customer support, which is a key part of our continuous improvement goals.
