Designed to replace the traditional Engine based method, the Icon by PAC Cetane Number analyzer works well with Diesel and Biodiesel products. It’s cheaper, faster and requires a lot less maintenance.

It eliminates the drawbacks of the traditional CFR Engine, and the issues associated with model based chemometrics used in FTIR and Raman spectrometers.

The measurement includes the effects of Cetane improvers, enabling real time control of a diesel blending plant. The unit correlates to ASTM D7668, and is designed to be complimentary to lab based Cetane Number measuring instruments, making bias management a lot more straightforward.

How the Cetane Number analyzer works

The diesel blend is introduced via a fuel injector into a chamber that is heated to 600°C. The time taken from injection to ignition and combustion are measured and the cetane number is calculated from these time delays.

With its advanced fast detection, the Icon by PAC Cetane Number analyzer delivers real time measurements for process control with excellent repeatability.

The analyzer has been specifically designed for the process environment and has the option of a pressure multiplier/scrubber to clean and boost the pressure of plant instrument air for making the measurement. Synthetic air from cylinders is required if this option is not utilized.

This is the first process analyzer to address the cost and maintenance issues associated with the use of the CFR Engine or technologies like IQT. Costs are greatly reduced when compared to spectroscopic methods, as there is no need for complex model development and maintenance.
